About us

Artistik License is a legal and business consultancy for creative professionals. We focus on helping artists and creators manage their work by providing them  services that empower them on their best choices . We believe in the power of collective bargaining and are actively engaged in projects that strive to strengthen the creative community through artist rights education.

Services

Legal Consulting Services : We advise creative professionals on their choices by examining their contractual relationships and licensing rights. We work with artists across mediums and genres.

Business and Relationship Consulting: We leverage our connections with curators, programmers, managers, institutions and organisations to provide you access to a network of mentors and advisors.

Education and Workshops: We undertake bespoke and specialised workshops to educate artists on their socio-economic (contractual and copyright) rights, as well as organise discussions on issues related to art, culture and justice.

Projects and Community Engagement

Artistik License is focussed on its mission to adequately represent artists, in conversations with policy makers and stakeholders in the global cultural industry. To this end, we are always open to engaging in partnerships with organisations and individuals working towards improving and strengthening the creative community. We are currently working on the following projects:

Artists’ Corner: Launched in April 2017, Artists’ Corner is a series of panel discussions that aims to create a dialogue between members of the creative community, with a strong focus on professional and cultural issues. We hope to make these discussions fruitful, and useful to the panellists, the attendees and the entire community.  A year-end report on the problems identified and solutions suggested will be collated, and we will then take steps to publish this report and initiate change within legal circles as well as within creative communities. This is a pan-India project that we are deeply passionate about.

Copyright Societies Monograph: As the title indicates, this is a detailed study on copyright societies, also known as, licensing authorities. Through the course of our study, we identify various issues in the way these societies function (and have functioned) in India, and we draw a comparison with foreign royalty collecting bodies as well. Is the current model the most suitable in India? How can we make the licensing system more effective? All this and more in the monograph.

Creatively Feminist: This social media project aims at exploring feminism in the context of creative industries. We seek to understand how notions of identity, gender, orientation and sexuality are represented in the performing and fine arts. We also hope to have a more comprehensive insight into feminism and equal opportunity in creative professions, by engaging with stakeholders and artists from a diverse range of disciplines such as music, design, theatre, literature and production, to name a few.
